Install Backtrack 4 (open source peneteration testing operating system) as a virtual OS in Oracle VM VirtualBox 4 (open source virtualization application)

Here's My HowTo video:

Following are the steps to install Backtrack 4 as a virtual OS in Oracle VirtualBox-4 on Windows platform:

1) Download and install latest version of Oracle VirtualBox for windows from http://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads

2) Download BackTrack 4 vmware image file from http://www.backtrack-linux.org/downloads/ .
Note: I have installed BT4 from a release image also and it works without any issues

3) Open "Oracle VM VirtualBox" by double clicking the icon on the desktop or from Start->Programs->Oracle VM VirtualBox

4) Click Next


 5) Type BackTrack 4 in the name box. Select Linux and Ubuntu as the
6) Leave Defaults and select Next
7) Leave Defaults and select Next


8) Select Next

9) Select Next
10) Select Next

11) Review Summary and select Finish
 12) Select Finish

13) This will create the BackTrack4 VM

14) Now to Configure BackTrack click "Settings" tab in the Oracle VM manager box

15) Adjust the Base Memory to an appropriate level and click OK to close the window. In the figure you can see we get a message if its set to a high value resulting in system performance issues.
16) Select BackTrack 4 and click "Start" . You'll get the First Run Wizard. Click Next
17) Select the file/folder where you downloaded the BackTrack 4 image file and click Next
18) Review Summary and click Finish
19) Select the default "Start BackTrack Frame Buffer (1024x768) and hit Enter


20) You'll see the BackTrack command line. Type "startx" to launch the Gui interface. BackTrack is now installed.
